Husband away and so Wifie will play

My better half is away for a few days. So this evening I had a delicious but rather complicated supper of toast, followed by a couple of Pringle sour cream crisps. Followed by a big handful of Pringle sour cream crisps. I debated whether to have another handful of crisps in a brown bread sandwich, but then I spotted my mini chocolate ice-cream cones from Mercadona. They went down lovely with cup of tea.

I have watched back to back episodes of all the “I’m a celebrity” episodes I have missed.

Whoops, my fingers fell on the delete button on the sky remote. The Gadget Show is now the Deleted Show.

I get to open up our advent calendar tomorrow. We were going to take it in turns to open the windows. But since husband is away, wifie gets to open up all the windows. I’m not very good at maths so if the odd extra window and chocolate get opened and eaten, he won’t hold it against me. Well not for very long.

Tonight I get his feather pillow, I get to throw out all the extra bedding and just for fun I’m going to sleep horizontally. It’s the new vertical.

I might even use his toothbrush……evil grin.

Bad grammar t’is getting on me nerves

I was watching “I’m a celebrity” on tv and Sabrina’s poor grammar is starting to grate. She’s not unintelligent and she is hearing all around her people speaking correctly, so it means either she’s just not listening and is rather arrogant, she is stupid or just doesn’t think it matters. Perhaps all three.

“We was” is her favourite. “I were”……”I done it”…..My London in laws say the same thing. It really drives me loopy, yes along with those bright purple Juicy Courture jogging suits. Grumpy old lady, that’s me.

This isn’t about regional accents, it is about correct usage of the English grammar. Correct tenses, correct use of irregular verbs. Whilst we are on the subject of the English language, can I also point out that the word “apartment” is NOT spelt ” appartment”…..

Now I’m off to bed and tomorrow I’ll get out the right side. Or is that the write side? We’ll leave my rant on bad spelling for another day. It will give me time to get the spell checker out on previous posts!!! :)

I am getting worried….

by the playground scene again. It is winter and that means more mums than ever before are wearing tracksuits into the playground. Sport is the last thing they have in mind. I’m a fan of tracksuit bottoms but that’s because they have elasticated waists and hide the layers that too many chocolate biscuits and having 3 children created. Not because I want something head to toe in bright purple with a big jewelled J’s the size of my head on it. Not because I want to wear a tracksuit top and bottom that is so short that when one bends over, which if you have young children and a youthful husband one does tend to do….everything down to gstring, or no gstring is on display. It is cold….we don’t want to see flesh and at 8.15am I don’t want to see bright, jewelled purple tracksuits either.  Or the furry leopard leggins that one mum was wearing today. My daughter tried to stroke them for heavens sake.

I love eccentricity but I can’t help feeling…that some of these mums just look plain odd. But it does brighten up the school run. Can’t wait for tomorrow!!

Book Virgin trains in advance and save money

I have been looking to book a Virgin train from London to the Midlands and have been really impressed with the fares. They have had a bad press but if you book ahead you can save a serious amount of money. Many of the complaints that I have read are to do with the high prices that people have paid.

Well you can get a one way ticket from London to Birmingham travelling late morning for £7.00. You can choose a table seat, an electrical socket and pay for Wifi on the Virgin trains too. If you don’t book in advance expect to pay nearer the £45 mark. By booking ahead with Virgin you get the discounted ticket price BUT you have to travel on that day and time listed. If you want a more flexible train ticket then you will have to pay much more. But for £7.00 for an advance Virgin ticket, I think that is pretty good.

The taxi to get me to London Euston is going to take around one to one hour and a half hours….that’s London for you. Imagine what that would cost for a taxi fare in Marbella bearing in mind it costs almost 80 euros one way for a trip that lasts around 35 minutes from the airport. Well I have been told by a couple of London taxi firms it will cost £30.00.

London is getting cheaper and cheaper as a holiday destination when I compare the prices to what we pay here…..

Wash and blow dry for 7.50 euros

Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting I do it. God forbid. My daughters run screaming in the opposite direction when I appear with a shampoo bottle.
I popped in a few days ago to the hairdressers just opposite El Corte Ingles in Puerto Banus. They have another salon on the main Marbella road. You can’t fail to spot it as they have the most gorgeous sparkly lights hanging from the ceilings and with clear ceiling to floor glass it has that goldfish effect…..if you want privacy then don’t get your hair done by the window. ( It is next to Bookworld Espana)
Anyway, I asked how much it would be to get a wash and blow dry and I was told by the man who opened the door for me, in perfect English, that it costs 7.50 euros but if you want any treatments, conditioners, then you pay on top.
It is a walk in salon, no appointments.
Now I have heard that some people who have had their hair coloured here had problems so I don’t know how experienced the hairdressers are or if that was just a couple of fussy clients being particular. But for under 8 euros to have your hair washed and blow dried, then I think that it is amazing value.
I’m going to be brave before xmas and try it because at the end of the day if I come out looking like a poodle or scarecrow, then nobody will be able to tell the difference as on rainy days I often look like a poodle and on windy days a scarecrow. I can always re-do it myself. On the other hand for that price I may come out feeling and looking a diva and will have saved a lot of money, as the hairdressers I go to charge much more for a wash and blow dry. I also find that when the hairdressers have done it I can go for around 5 days without washing it so another bonus.
Can you tell I’m looking for excuses to go…..

El Corte Ingles creche for children

El Corte Ingles had a sign on the lift doors today advertising a creche for children on their 4th floor. If you purchase anything in the store you will get the 1st hour of childcare free of charge.
They are saying that there are arts and crafts activities, storytelling and Santa so sounds fun if your children are ok being left and it means you can get an hour or so of Christmas shopping to fully focus on the task at hand.
Or you could just go and have a nap in your car…..
