The weather in Marbella is much better than most other areas in Spain and although Malaga is nearby, it is not the same temperature as its nearby city. Malaga is hotter in the summer and cooler in the winter. Marbella has hot summers and in the winter the temperatures range on average to 15-16 degrees, though they can often be warmer. There is little rain and as such Marbella makes an ideal winter location if you want to escape the cold winters of the UK for a few weeks each year.
Sheltered by the impressive Sierra Blanca mountain range, Marbella has its own beneficial micro climate. Marbella enjoys an average of twenty-six days of sunshine each January. Rainfall is not the norm and winter temperatures are mild.
Whilst other areas in Spain do experience some harsher weather and snow, Marbella does not get these extremes. The closest Marbella sees of snow is once every couple of years on top of the mountain range. With the blue skies in the background this is an absolutely incredible sight to see when it does happen. Meterological records show that the sun shines on Marbella for around 320 days a year.
The harsh winter winds rarely reach Marbella because it is protected by the mountain range and the sea breezes help to cool it in the summer. Inland from Marbella temperature rocket in the summer to around 40 degrees wheras the coastal temperatures stay a more reasonable, but still very hot 30 degrees. The average annual temperature is a superb 19º C.
Marbella has less than fifty days of rain per year with the rainy season lasting from November to February but still the rainy days are far less than the sunny ones and the temperatures are usually around 13 degrees or higher.
