6.40pm – Ryan air has closed its flights leaving from the UK/Northern Europe until 1pm on Thursday. Flights from the UK to Ireland are suspended until Friday.

5.33pm – Britain’s airspace to remain mostly closed until at least 1am. Scottish airports and Newcastle open for now.

1pm – Scottish airspace to remain open but the rest of Britain has their airspace closed until 4pm Spanish time. At this point a statement will be issued on the latest flight news and situation with the volcanic ash. Meanwhile the rest of Europe has around half their flights going out. Nobody should be following the media hype about the UK offering help and heading to the destinations mentioned. Contact the UK embassy in the country you are in for information. When help has been given by the navy, the embassy has details of names and only those people are being shipped back home, along with the UK soldiers.

10am – Manchester airport may open at 7pm tonight, not earlier as was expected.

8am – London airports are to remain closed for the time being as the volcano is emitting more ash and the wind direction is blowing it towards the UK. Scottish airports will open at 7am, the rest of UK airspace from 1pm but all London airports will remain closed. British Airways has cancelled all short haul flights.

The Royal Navy are heading to Bilbao to collect 2000 stranded Britains. Two Royal Navy ships are heading to Channel ports. Around 40,000 Brits are thought to be stranded in Spain.
