Birthday cake ideas
If you are anything like my friend, we’ll call her Em to protect her identity (as I suspect she caused food poisoning at her daughter’s nursery recently) you will need birthday cake ideas if you live in Marbella. Unless you are an accomplished cake decorator or have a fortune to spend on a shop bought one for the Corte Ingles you will need to drive to Gibraltar or Iceland ( and pay a LOT of money there) for a ready made birthday cake. I am going to show you how to CHEAT. Come on, you know you want to. You just have to practice for a few minutes every day in the run up to your child’s party saying, “yes, I made it myself, yes I made it myself.” Eventually you may actually start to believe it. This is my guide to the perfect birthday cake without any stress.
Step 1
Either buy a ready made sponge cake from a shop. It doesn’t matter if it taste like sandpaper as it is going to look beautiful and that’s all that matters. Or if you can make a simple sponge birthday cake, round, rectangular you choose. Please don’t add 6 eggs to it as Em did. Follow the recipe, this is not the time to get creative. Your reputation as a good mum is at stake. No pressure.
Step 2
Go to www.somethingcakey.com and choose your design. This is going to be the topper for your cake and it will look AMAZING. If you have a football fan you can have the face of a football player on it, a cartoon character, Bratz, anything you want, they will do somersaults to help you. You don’t need to go on a crash course on icing a cake, you don’t need to pay a fortune in a shop. An A4 cake topper only costs 4.50 euros and a round cake the same. You could also cover some small cakes ( cup cakes) with these cake topping designs, 12 little cakes for 3.00 euros. Perfect for the day you need to take cakes into the classroom to celebrate Miss Sophie getting married, divorced or sacked. Think of those days when the PTA beg parents to bake cakes. You could waft into the school playground with a cake complete with cake topper and your power heels and you would hear the whispers of “domestic goddess ” follow you for a good three hours.
If you are as bad as Em at baking, ( she is bad, after her party cake was sent to the nursery a note was sent home saying in future all birthday cakes had to be sealed in a box, only shop bought and with the ingredients listed) then on the something cakey website they have instructions and demos to help you. Unfortunately Em hadn’t seen the cake topping website but she knows about it now!
So for all you mums and dads out there getting stressed that you feel you need to make a birthday cake for your children you now have the solution.
Something cakey are based between Marbella and Estepona and have free pick up points along the way if that makes it easier for you. They can also post their cake toppers to you. It’s a very clever idea so give it a go.
Em, are you listening???????
