Fig cuttings

Back in the south of England my father in law grows coconut plants, grapes and figs. The fig tree in his garden was really pretty and I liked the idea of plucking leaves and hanging them over those morbid marble naked garden statues in the local garden centres around Marbella and Estepona. My very own, green, 21st century eco graffiti tag.
So I was given a couple of cuttings. He just snapped off a couple of twigs, tore the leaves off and I took them home to Spain, in a plastic bag, no earth. No problem with customs either, but they were in the suitcase.
I stuck them in a pot of compost and watered them every day. I don’t have green fingers, so believe me I am jumping up and down for joy as I pulled them out of the soil today and they had a root each. Unfortunately I have fondled them for too long and they have snapped off.
So if you are out and about and see a fig tree and fancy one for yourself just snap a twig off. Apparently they like really awful soil too.
The perfect plant. You don’t need green fingers to grow it, they like stony awful soil. And you can have fun in garden centres with the leaves.
Just don’t fondle the roots.
