Paradise Lost – TV programme on Spain

It is fun to watch these types of programmes when you live in Marbella as it is a small world here and you always see someone or a place that you know. I recognized the house that Kristina the estate agent was standing in as some parents had built it a couple of years ago hoping to sell it to an Arab. It really is something else. If anyone locally was interested in going to the new hair salon opened up by Robert Calvin, you will find it in the parade of shops by Barclays Bank in Nueva Andalucia, where the DVD shop used to be. I have to say when I saw the location I thought ” oh no.” The Cutting Crew had a hairdressers there for years, then it closed down and then partially re-opened. It was established but still didn’t make as much money as the branch in La Canada the commercial shopping centre. There was a lovely cafe/cake shop there too and that too has closed down. The dvd shop moved further down the road and so I don’t think that area gets much passing trade there. Robert Calvin will also be competing against Reflections which is the busier area of Centro Plaza and has a first class reputation in the area and also markets itself heavily. I’m not sure how many people will want to pay 150 euros for a cut, colour and blow dry either, with around 100 euros being the price that most people seem to pay locally. A new salon has opened up opposite the department store El Corte Ingles in Puerto Banus and they are offering colour and a cut for just over 22 euros, absolutely amazing. It looks very busy and caught my eye as I just love their blingy lights that hang low from the ceilings.Back to where Robert has chosesn his premises, a negative can be parking your car, which can be a problem around there sometimes. The higher you have to park up the hill the more likely you are to break your neck once you get out and try walking down the hill, if you like to wear heels! In Centro Plaza parking is easy and along with any slopes there are steps. That aside, I really do hope that Robert Calvin is successful and he came across really well, a very likeable man on the tv programme. So many hairdressers just don’t have that factor and if you are having your hair done for 2 hours then it is nice to have someone who you can chat with and who helps you relax. I think he has everything about him to fit in perfectly with the Marbella lifestyle and I wish him the best of luck….
